Ashley Williams Joins Bristol City

23rd August 2019

New Era are delighted to announce that client Ashley Williams has joined Bristol City on a permanent deal.

Ashley began his career at West Bromwich Albion as a teenager, going on to sign for non-league Hednesford Town. He joined League Two side Stockport County in 2003 and went on to become Club Captain.

Ashley then joined Swansea City, initially on a loan deal, that was later made permanent following an impressive first season in the Championship. Ashley signed for a Club record fee of £400,000 in Summer 2008.

Since signing for Swansea, Ashley has received a series of accolades, including being named Wales Footballer of the Year in November 2009 and featuring in the PFA’s Team of the Year in both the 2009/10  and 2010/11 seasons.

Indeed, Ashley helped Swansea gain promotion to the Premier League in 2010 and was part of the Capital One Cup winning side in 2013. He was made Swansea Captain in the same year.

In August 2016, Ashley made a £12m move to Everton. He made over 70 appearances in his time at the Club, taking his total number of Premier League appearances to 241. He joined Stoke City on loan for the 2018/19 season, making 37 appearances in all competitions for The Potters.

Ashley announced in Summer 2019 that he would be leaving Everton following the conclusion of his contract.

He reached an agreement with The Robins this week and now brings his wealth of experience to the Championship side.

Ashley has described his move as a ‘breath of fresh air’ and is excited to work within a group of ‘young’ and ‘enthusiastic’ players.

We wish Ashley all the best for his new challenge at Ashton Gate and look forward to seeing his contribution to Bristol City’s campaign.
